This movie will draw inevitable comparisons to Patriots Day (which I loved). But the two are very different movies. While Patriots Day is more of the documentary, chronicling everything that happened and telling the facts of the story, Stronger is deeply personal and intimate story telling the story of one person. Nearly the entire way through, the movie pulls at your heart strings. It is very raw. While the movie is theoretically about Jeff Bauman, it is at least as much about those surrounding him and their strength. His girlfriend, Emily, winds up coming across as the real hero of the movie. My guess is this will get multiple Oscar nominations -- Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress.
On top of this, it is a VERY Boston movie. It comes across as very authentic of the people and culture of Boston -- in all of its glory and warts.
