Heavy, heavy, heavy. BUT...definitely worth the gut punch emotionally that Stronger gives you. Once again, Jake Gyllenhaal proves to be one of the best actors working today. He continues his streak of incredible performances, and definitely deserves an Oscar nom for this transformative performance. Tatiana Maslany plays her character fantastically well.
Stronger surprised me towards the end with the appearance of a character with a hat that causes a shift in both Gyllenhaal's Jeff Bauman character and the film's narrative. If it hadn't been for that addition, I'm not sure the film would've left as strong of a feeling with me. It added some hope and meaning that this very dark story was bleeding for so long. It made Stronger stronger.
Definitely amongst the best films of 2017 so far, up there with The Hero Wind River and The Big Sick for me.
