Review of Stripped (2001) by Zandra E — 01 Jun 2011
It is amazing how life will always come full circle when you least expect it. I watched this movie on Netflix streaming about the life of dancers at regular and lower end clubs in the NY/NJ area in the late 90s by the looks of things.
The sound quality was pretty bad, but the cinematography was 100% 90s art house so that was expected. I'm not quite sure what her point was with the film, but it was a good POV into the complex feelings dancers have (I assume).
The one things that caught my attention was the story of the missing woman. Years and years ago I bought the movie Red Light: Inside the Sex Industry, which really turned my whole world upside down and started my interest in working with and counseling sex workers.
One of the dancers in the film worked on the book and disappeared after it came out. The book shined a bright light on sex trafficking long before the general public knew about America's dirty little secret.
