Review of Stripes (2005) by Dave H — 22 Sep 2009
Early 80s classic, surviving almost entirely on Murray's slacker charm, and his easy chemistry with Ramis. Very funny most of the time - but uneven - even in the Ramboesque 80s the cold war "action" leaning third act must have seemed out of place, and can't compare to the hilarious set up and basic training acts.
Star - and persona - making turn from Murray that he's seldom bettered, this film also solidified the careers of Reitman, Ramis - and Candy - who's funnier here than anywhere since. Classic hummable theme too, and weird to consider that the same actress has snogged Harold Ramis and Harrison Ford.
