Review of Stripes (1981) by Jorge D — 11 Mar 2009
This film is definitely not as well known as reitman's other movies like ghostbusters or evolution, but it racks up the laughs extensively. bill murray and harold ramis once again, are a hilarious comic duo as bumbling nobodies who join the US Army on a whim.
Together they cause problems for the entire platoon and their demanding, humorless drill sergeant, played by warren oates. There are great one liners and sequences orchestrated brilliantly by murray, ramis, and john candy.
The gargantuan and overwhelming ending displays one of the great mockeries of the army in cinematic history. This film again defined murray as one of the leading funnymen of the 1980s. The plot is simple enough to follow and can be a little extreme in certain places, but the bottom line is that this is a must see movie for any fan of parody and military send ups.
