Review of Stripes (1981) by Justin V — 30 May 2010
Yet another one of the many movies that Bill Murray completely makes his own, "Stripes" is also a movie that stands outside of time as something absolutely timeless, and not only for the "SNL" meathead's antics.
At some level, "Stripes" is the story of growing up, about two arrested development adults joining the military as a means of finding manhood well into their '30s, and actually GETTING it.
All that, however, is secondary - as per usual with Murray and Ramis, along with co-star John Candy, you've got a veritable treasure trove of funny, skit-style scenes coming back-to-back. And you won't be quite sure just what was scripted and what was improvised.
Razzle-dazzle!
