Review of Stripes (1981) by Francisca M — 29 May 2012
I would like to start off by saying that I never cried at the end of "Old Yeller" when he was shot. Second, there were a lot of John actors in this film. I have to say I enjoyed Bill Murray in this role.
He was quite charming and funny. I love it when good actors improv some of their scenes especially when they turn out well like the sharing scene ("big toe" Hulka). Now, I have to admit that Harold Ramis creeps me out when it comes to anything resembling romance but he was hilarious despite it.
Another great point is the theme music. It hit the right note and Elmer Bernstein knew what he was doing. I didn't realize how many great actors or well known actors showed up in this film. Did anyone not notice Dave Thomas as the MC at the Strip Club? Fantastic.
A lot of things worked for this film that were tried and true commercial antics that wasn't old. I believe my favorite scene will be their graduation because I love a great drill. Overall, a funny film especially when you stick with it.
