Review of Stripes (1981) by Pete T — 14 Mar 2009
Stripes is about 2 dead beat guys, out of work in 1970's America. Both single and with no prospects they decide to join the Army after watching a TV commercial. Laughs and gags from start to finish in what seems like a movie of 2 halves, the first part of the movie sees them in traning, they cause mayhem in the barracks and a storm while on leave.
The second part of the movie sees the newly 'passed-out' platoon assigned to Europe to protect a top secret prototype armoured vehicle, only for it to go missing?? Or is it. Bill Murray stars alongside the Late John Candy and an excellent cast.
The graduation on parade is one of several funny but memorable scenes in this movie. Bill Murray, one of things about this actor is that he seems to take a similar character to all of his roles, which leaves Bill Murray fans feeling like they know the man already no matter which films he is in, and when this actor is in a good movie the fans can relax into the film quickly with familiarity.
