Review of Strictly Sexual (2008) by Dan G — 06 Aug 2010

I've only read a handful of harlequin romance novels (or similar ilk), but I swear that one of them had the exact same plot as this movie. Well, ok, that one had only one male and one female... and this one had two of each. But otherwise, pretty much identical.

This isn't really a bad thing--I'm just saying that if you like reading trashy romance stories, there probably isn't anything plot-wise here which is surprising or unpredictable.

What Strictly Sexual does provide is some really neat character interactions. The two main male characters have some great interactions with each other, and even better are the interactions between the two main female characters.

The best, though are the intensely passionate arguments between Amber Benson (who is freakin' adorable) and her male counterpart. She isn't always the best actress in the film, however, when she amps it up she shines like none other. So great.

Three stars for being really entertaining and some truly great moments. But I can't give it much more than that due to the truly Harlequin-esque plot.

(Note, there is sex in the movie... but it isn't really the pornographic variety. You never see anything but faces close together.).
