Review of Streets of Fire (1984) by Benjamin X — 17 Feb 2008
The combination of styles was particularly interesting, creating some sort of grotesque mix of 50s and 80s style. I also really loved the idea of the bike gang and how there's really no reason given for Willem Dafoe to rush the stage and kidnap Ellen Aim. Speaking of Willem Dafoe, he looked like Babyface from Dick Tracy, so kudos to the makeup department (and the costuming crew in general). The acting was also so hammed up that I found it hard not to smile (especially Rick Moranis who appeared to be prepping for his role in Spaceballs).
If the movie was remade like 10 years ago, I feel like Julia Styles would've played Ellen, Brendan Fraser Cody, and Matt Dillon as the gang boss. The resemblances of all are pretty uncanny.
