Review of Streets of Fire (1984) by Neal A — 12 Dec 2012
Streets of Fire isn't very strong in any one department. It tries to have it all, but falls a little short on most counts. Its soundtrack, considered one of the standouts of 1984, has no real standout material on it.
Its performances are probably the best thing about it, but by today's standards, Amy Madigan as McCoy and Willem Dafoe as Raven Shaddock's performances can't help but feel quite camp. Michael Pare hits all the right notes as the pseudo-action hero Tom Cody and Diane Lane does as well as the songstress-in-distress Ellen Aim, but the flick is murky and never quite goes anywhere like its title would have you believe.
Streets of Embers would suit it better, because nothing is really on fire here.
