Review of Streets of Fire (1984) by William W — 06 Jul 2005
I recently stumbled upon this movie on the internet while looking up another. I read about it, and it sounded to be quite interesting. Well, the other day, I found it at Circuit City for only ten bucks, so I bought.
I took it home that night and watched it. It was a little different and original. Streets of Fire is about a "loner" named Tom Cody who finds out from his sister that his ex-girlfriend, Ellen Aim, had been kidnapped off the stage while singing at her rock concert by the "Bombers," a bike gang led by a guy named Raven.
Tom decides to rescue her with the help of his new friend, the unemployed soldier named McCoy and Ellen's manager/new beau Billy Fish. During the rescue, you'll find 80's rock music playing and explosions flaming with a dark, rainy backdrop.
I found myself enjoying it enough to not have felt like I wasted my money on it. A few of the songs were great, but, some of them had an old 50's sound mixed in with the retro 80's of alot of the songs, and, well, I'm not a fan of 50's music.
But, for the songs that did have the pure 80's feel to them, I very much enjoyed. The action of this film was mainly physical combat or shooting things up and making them explode. The whole time of the movie, I wanted more chemistry and romance between Michael Pare and Diane Lane than there was.
Their romance just seemed kinda bland. But, as I said before, for the times that this film does generate the 80's feel to it, I love it. So, for 10 bucks and a few great moments, Streets of Fire is worth it.
So, in closing, if you like 80's film (which I very much do) with a little action and some great rock songs, Streets of Fire is for you.
