Review of Streets of Fire (1984) by Andrew C — 21 Jun 2009
Streets of Fire (1984) -- [4.0] -- For a self-proclaimed "rock & roll fable", I found little rock & roll or fable in STREETS IN FIRE. Thereâ??s a song at the beginning and a song or two at the end, and thatâ??s about it for the rock & roll.
Theyâ??re good numbers, though. And as far as the fable part goes, Iâ??d say itâ??s just nonsensical reality. Michael Pare is a pretty dull leading man and Diane Laneâ??s talent is wasted, but Amy Madigan shows some personality.
Willem DaFoe shows up playing creepy as only he can â?? the movie could have used more of him. The story falls apart half-way through, unable to pull itself back together again until a sorta-cool confrontation in the streets that ends anti-climactically.
STREETS OF FIRE wants to be gritty and cool, but itâ??s too watered down and boring to make you care.
