Review of StreetDance 3D (2010) by Jani H — 11 Jun 2010
Let's face it. This is a dance movie and that is what you should get ready for. Why did I watch this then? For starters, I gotta say that my dancing skills can be compared to a fallen, rotten tree trapped in cement. I can't dance. Period. I went to see this movie with low expectations and when the end credits started to roll, I realized that I had seen an energetic movie full of excellently choreographed dances.
'Streetdance' is nothing but a movie about dancing, especially streetdance. Old-fashioned ballet is the other genre but in this movie, ballet is shown as a gloomy, serious genre whilst streetdance is energetic, unorthodox and angry.
This movie lasts for approx 100 minutes so without a basic plot this would be nothing. There's an ordinary, predictable love story but it feels as if it's only forced to the movie. There's basically nothing dramatic about the movie. Gladly, there are some occasional humorous scenes that will put smiles on the faces.
The acting is mediocre at best but if I've understod correctly, the lead performers are mostly members of two dance crew's called Flawless and Diversity. Charlotte Rampling was the only actress that I knew by name and face. How did she get in to the movie, I do not know.
'Streetdance' is for those who love dancing, especially modern dance seen on clubs and on the streets. I'll admit that I enjoyed the movie because of its spectacular dance scenes. And saw it as a 3D version and gotta say that it looked amazing. The detail, the depth and especially the brightness of the picture were probably the best I've seen in 3D. Enjoy and let the rhythm flow!
