Review of Street Kings (2008) by Olaf N — 07 Sep 2009
A lot of dumb shit happens in this movie.
In the space of a couple of days 7 police officers of varying rank kill each other. Now, suspention of disbelief aside, I'm sure more would be done than just having Bertie Wooster say "we'll just say some baddies did it".
At one point a dude can't get out of the way of another dude with a bullet in his arm pushing a fridge/freezer across a kitchen, allowing himself to be shot.
In the same scene we are presented with the insinuation that a sofa id harder to penetrate than a tank.
Towards the end of the movie we have one of the worst "how-long-can-we-put-off-killing-the-lead-before-he-kills-us" scenes I can remember. But, and here's the important bit, that scene ends with Ted Logan - sorry - Tom Ludlow wedging a shovel into another dudes skull.
And so it is throughout this film that whenever you start to roll your eyes at another predictable plot device or cheesey line someone gets their arm broken or shot in the face or beaten with a phone book.
A lot of cool shit happens in this movie.
