Review of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) by Tom R — 07 Sep 2010
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li is a hilarious comedy! Of course, it's meant to be taken seriously, which it fails at. Chris Klein is so irritatingly miscast and looks like a Bangkok Dangerous Nicolas Cage knockoff.
And of all the characters to base a movie on, is Chun Li really the best? Wasn't the game simply about a tournament? I really wish the movie was good, considering how well some reboots are made (Batman Begins and Casino Royale), but the movie is mindless and without you and your friends to make fun of it, it has no entertainment value.
It fails to learn from the first movie's mistakes where there were more gun battles than actual street fighting. Someday, Hollywood will make video game movies like superhero movies, but not until they realize they need a good script with a talented director who's interested in the source material.
They were on the right track with Silent Hill, but they continue to drop the ball with uninspiring movies like The Legend of Chun Li.
