Review of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) by Cancelled U — 18 Jun 2010
I grew up playing the Street Fighter game, and still play it when ever I got the time. So here I am thinking this movie would be so bad, with all the negative reviews this movie got.
First of all this movie is bad but not worst movie ever. Do they get the characters right? NO! It's Hollywood after all, I am tired of complaining. In my point of view the only good thing in this movie are; Chun Li played by the gorgeous Kristin Kreuk and Bison by Neal McDounough. I always adore Kreuk since she appear in Smallville, and she did good as Chun Li, no matter what people said. Bison here, well I was kinda freak out that Bison has blond hair, but well Neal is a good actor and he is sadistic as ever in this movie.
The bad thing? well, where should I start? Oh right, Chris Klein! He did okay in the 90's but now he is old and kinda bald (haha), and isn't Charlie Nash suppose to be blond and wearing glasses? You know Hollywood, changing this small detail can be a big flaw in the movie. Although I love Michael Duncan in The Green Mile but his portrayal as Balrog was laughable.
Where the hell are the other villain? okay Vega is here but only for what 5 minutes? there are not enough action! though I appreciate some of the special move given to Chun Li here, but again that's not enough to satisfy the viewers. The story line is weak; they took it from the first alpha and second game where Chun Li made her first appearance and swore to kill off Bison. But again, they did it wrong. Gen? he is Chun Li's father old friend and her old teacher (I hate the way he is portrayed in the movie). and where is Guile? Ryu?
But again, not a bad movie that need to be burn or heavily criticize. I haven't watch the American Dragonball movie, as it looks terrible, but when I get the time let me see which movie comes out as the worst (my pick goes to Dragonball).
4/10.
