Review of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) by Murder C — 30 Jan 2014
At a young age, Chun-Li's (Kristin Kreuk) father get kidnapped by a crime lord named Bison (Neal McDonough). Fast forward a few years, a older Chun-Li with some training by a man called Gen (Robin Shou) is ready to confront Bison and get her father back.
So as we all know, this is a movie based of the video game with the same name, a previous attempt to make the fighting game into a movie was done back in 1994 with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia in the main roles.
This movie has no ties with the 1994 movie and is a attempt to give "Street Fighter" a new chance for a life outside a game controller. Sadly, this is nothing but a forgettable b-action movie with a weak storyline, terrible characters (with a serious lack of popular Street Fighter characters) and worst of all boring and bad choreographed fight scenes.
Michael Clarke Duncan and Neal McDonough seem to try to do their best in their roles, but it is all in vain. "Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li" will not have you engaged or entertained.
The 1994 movie is considered to be a terrible film, dumb, sure but at least it was somewhat entertaining and starred most of the characters from the video game series, while this is a forgettable bore of a film that probably killed "Street Fighter" from ever getting another chance for a movie franchise.
