Review of Street Fighter (1994) by Matt T — 11 Sep 2011
1 - Inept, cheap looking adaptation of the wildly popular (and beloved) video game, strangely enough hardly features the street fighting the title implies, and what it does is pretty dodgy, (and not in the streets).
Poor pyrotechnics, and sets and props that often look improvised don't help cover the ridiculously lame plot and awful script. JCVD and Kylie Minogue are absolutely laughable. The rest of the cast doesn't fare much better, and one could say almost every character is miscast, except perhaps Raul Julia, who puts in a spirited campy performance.
Sadly, it was the last before his death. Also, Zangief (Bryniarski), dumb as a bell Russian goon, is a character that is played well for genuine laughs.
