Review of Street Fighter (1994) by Gonzalo D — 03 Oct 2011
An awesome case of a movie so bad that it falls several miles behind the 'so bad it's good' territory.
Raul Julia is hilarious as the large ham to end all large hams, Van Damme as always is hard to understand when speaking but is solid in action scenes, and the rest of the cast, despite how campy the film is, really give it their all. I know I just said campy, but it's campy in a good way; in that it's fun without being lame. Also worth noting is how many of the game's characters they included in name, appearance and fighting style.
It's a farily mindless story, but given that it's adapted from a fighting game with no story, it's to be expected. But like I said; it's too fun for you to really notice. Just stop taking it seriously, sit back and enjoy the goofyness, multiple explosions, passing-grade martial arts fights, and of course, Raul Julia as the large ham to end all large hams.
"For Raul - Via Con Dios".
