Review of Straw Dogs (2011) by Philip D — 03 Dec 2011
It's pretty much what I expected. A completely irrelevant remake. Even if Sam Peckinpah made the same exact movie for the first time the exact same way today, it wouldn't be anything more than just another popcorn flick about douche bags because our entertainment is over saturated with these same themes. There are movies that are important for the era they came out and probably need a sense of history to appreciate, but this remake doesn't have any of it. It's just a pure genre flick and an extremely badly edited one to boot. And there's no doubt that Tony Scott's WILD BUNCH remake will be another unimportant movie trying to bank on a built-in audience. If you want to remake the WILD BUNCH at least make them all samurai warriors.
Oh yeah. This is probably the second movie I liked James Marsden in. I thought he was pretty douchey in X-MEN, but he won me over in SEX DRIVE and then this. Too bad he's stuck making bullshit.
