Review of Straw Dogs (2011) by Daniel A — 11 Dec 2011
Better than expected but still less than admirable for its questionable glamorisation of violence. Rod Lurie's remake of the controversial 1970s original isn't exactly necessesary but makes for decent viewing nonetheless.
The central trio are surprisingly effective, with James Marsden and Alexander Skarsgard's opposing performances showing the considerable dramatic talent of both actors, while Kate Bosworth also emerges better than expected.
The blood-soaked finale is an ultra-violent thrill, but by this point it all feels a little bit pointless.
