I have not seen the original 1971 version, but what I cans ay about this is that it felt empty. Not much content was filled, I didn't feel satisfied, especially when it ended on a incomplete note. I wanted to know what happened next!
The anarchist in me did enjoy the violent bloodbath of the climax, but as a story, it seemed to focus entirely on just that. Sadly, this is like most horror remakes where they basically destroy most of the monster's mystique and try to replace it with understanding and massacre. Now...I'm going to see how the original stacks up against it.
