Review of Straw Dogs (2011) by Zach S — 22 Nov 2012
Though not as good as the original, the remake of Straw Dogs proves that not all remakes are terrible. James Marsden is a suitable David Sumner, Kate Bosworth is a lot more tolerable than Susan George, and Alexander Skarsgard is an awesome antagonist. The new setting of the south also works in the favor of the remake, though the action is a bit more sped up and a little rushed at times, the mood is still pretty unsettling at times. James Woods is annoying per usual, but plays the character well and the differences in how the scenes play out between this one and the original range from negative to positive.
All in all, the remake is worth watching even if you haven't seen the original, there are still problems but none that are too great or that weren't in the original. Also I just love the Skarsgard family.
PROS: Good cast, retains many positive qualities from original, South setting is great.
CONS: Scenes feel rushed, some odd changes to some scenes.
