Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Stephen C — 24 Dec 2007
One of Pekinpah most difficult and widely discussed films most notable for the rape scene, which contributed to the film being banned in the UK for almost 30 years.
Apart from the scene which is still a tough watch Peckinpah Builds the tension nicely as Hoffman is made a fool of not only by the villagers but by his young wife.
The final standoff ranks along side Peckinpahs best work with agreat use of Editing and Music to convey the desperate siege that Hoffman finds himself in wher he must overcome his fears and kill in order to protect the slow witted Henry Niles and His wife.
The ending is fantastic and the film as a whole may be dated but still packs a punch even after all these years.
