Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Russell D — 09 Jun 2008
I really wanted to like this film-it's been on my want-to-see list for years-and I can certainly respect the effort. But the misogyny of this film is awfully hard for me to get past. It's not as if I didn't expect violence and the shabby depiction of women in a Peckinpah film, but this is one of those films where horrible things happen to characters because they Deserve It Because The Film Requires Them To.
It's worth a watch for the talent involved, but the test of a good movie for me is if I'll watch it again. Once is enough.
