Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Robert B — 19 Oct 2011
Interesting film with some intense acting, Dustin Hoffman goes to any lengths to support and psychologically help his wife in a world where no body knows anything for sure.
An engaging and entertaining film, the messages are very valuable in this film, but there were a few loose ends that I am sure will be explained in the 2011 version.
This film is very strong in using law and intelligence to conquer brutality and extreme parts of laws that are being broken in todays society.
The film also addresses fundemental upbeat solutions when everything in the world is wanting what you have.
Dustin Hoffman as an intelligent man once presented with the problems in all diametrics, manages to use what he has and use them to the maximum to defend these forces.
Susan George is a good looking girl who orignates from this Irish village, the remake is in America. A similar thing happened in the film The WIcca Man, I am not sure if SUsan George was in the Wicca Man but she does look a bit like the girl in that film, very sensual.
The mathematical approach to dealing with problems that lifes throws at us supported by the faith we instill in other people who love us, will conquer all types of things. Also Dustin in this film is free of any emotions like jealousy, but stills manage to forfill his duty as a loving husband. Another upbeat message in this film is the homestead and how in conjunction with the law can challenge and win whilst chaos is around and the cruelty that gets reported in the news or not reported due to such difficult personal circumstances. The truth always reveals itself and the judgements in this film are also put on pause until the actual event happens.
The title of the film as I enteurprete it is you can build and build, patch up and keep tidy but over time challenges will present themselves, but if you keep cool follow the law and use what your environment provides you will get through, survive, education mathematics or whatever will help you deal with difficult situations and give you the tools to deal with these people appropriately and also help understand the world around people.
