Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Jay C — 03 Dec 2009
Dustin Hoffmanâ??s American academic moves back to his English wife's home village where he doesn't fit in with the locals who mock his timidity and lust after his wife. Their confrontations escalate, resulting in a final explosion of savage violence.
Straw Dogs is a well-made horror/thriller, with an undoubtedly exhilarating siege at the end. Unfortunately, any positive aspects are largely undone by the sense of nauseating misogyny that hangs over the film.
A truly nasty film.
