Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Dale W — 15 Oct 2010
Sam Peckinpah takes a premise typical of a western and transfers it to the countryside. The transition works well. A study of violence and alienation, with startling characterisation, the tension in the film builds up to a shattering, memorable climax, one of the best 45 minutes in film history.
