Review of Strauss R: Elektra (2010) by Thomas L — 13 Jun 2018
Problems with this movie:
1. Rated PG-13 instead of rated R. An R-rating would have been much more fitting for this comic book character's film.
2. Main character is whitewashed.
3. Elektra has an American accent instead of a Greek accent.
4. Iconic, classic red costume is barely shown, and worn by Elektra only twice.
5. Pacing is horribly slow.
6. Runtime is too short.
7. Too many unnecessary and pointless flashbacks.
8. Too much slow motion during fights.
9. Forced subplot with the single father and daughter. (the movie could have literally been titled "Protecting the Millers").
10. Plot is bad.
11. CGI is bad.
12. Lack of action.
13. Villain is underdeveloped.
14. Deaths are corny, cause deadly green gas appears right when and where a Hand member's dead body disappears.
I really love Jennifer Garner, but this movie is horrible. It was so BORING and HORRIBLY paced with an insane amount of flashbacks and boring dialogue. The movie was so boring that it put me to sleep. I've watched it a few times and tried to like it but I just couldn't get myself to liking it. The action is extremely dull and a lot of the physics didn't even make sense. The amount of flashbacks was boring, ridiculous, annoying, and unnecessary. The pacing is super extremely slow. The plot is horrible. She spends most of her work life being a deadly assassin killing people then spends one night at a couple of strangers' house for dinner and then the next day she gets assigned by the Hand to assassinate the girl who was the daughter of the man who she ate dinner with and suddenly decides not to kill her and aborts her mission. So ONE short crummy night was long enough for her to get that attached to two people she barely knows? That's such horrid writing! So the Hand later at night decide to kill the 13-year-old girl themselves and Elektra spends the rest of the movie with the father and the daughter while protecting them and go on a familylike road trip with them to get away from the Hand. Later it turns out that the 13-year-old girl was actually an assassin herself which is strange because she criticized Elektra for killing people for a living. It's so hypocritical! This is such an incredibly campy comic book movie. It's a very, very, very, very, very, very poorly written, poorly made, and poorly directed film. It's a shame because I really like Jennifer Garner a lot and she is a wonderful actress and one of my favorite actors ever, but this movie was so disappointing and horrible. What makes it even worse is that she is my favorite live-action version of Elektra and I like her far better than Elodie Yung's Elektra, who I personally felt was super annoying.
Rating: 1.1/10.
