Review of Strangers on a Train (1951) by Stephen Z — 12 Oct 2015
"The Master of Suspense" once again earns his nickname. "Strangers on a Train" is by far one of Alfred Hitchcock's most suspenseful thrillers. In and of itself a well-written film, what really sells this crazy story is Robert Walker's creepy, psychotic performance.
This film would have been good without Walker, but it is exceptional because of Walker. His eerily calm manner and piercing eyes convey his character's lunacy brilliantly. And while Farley Granger's performance is dry, it is overshadowed by Walker and by this clever, twisting tale.
"Strangers on a Train" is one of Hitchcock's best films, and for a man with such a celebrated career, that's saying something!
