Review of Stranger Than Paradise (1984) by Brandon M — 07 Dec 2008
Ultimately I liked this movie, but I don't know why. This is the quintessential indi film: east-coast, lazy, and pretentious; grainy b/w, violins and all. I suspect indi film jokes since the 80's all stem from this movie.
All technical elements of this film are lazy and sloppy, from the interminable blackouts to the atmospheric noise. Acting is nonexistent. But these musicians have some personality that shows through in a couple scenes, and the suggestion of a story midway through kept my interest through to the end.
