Review of Stranger Than Fiction (2000) by Eric G — 13 Jul 2016
Will Ferrell's Truman Show is a good movie mainly because it is a movie where the main character could have been played by anyone. Will Ferrell still does his unfunny loud and yelling routine but in way smaller doses.
Stranger Than Fiction is a good movie and a film being great and Will Ferrell just don't go together. Like how Truman Show is so great that you can't watch Ed TV without thinking about how much Truman is better, this is kind of the same.
Actually I'd say that this feels like a mix of Truman and Charlie Kauffman. It's hard to buy Will Ferrell and Maggie Gyllenhaal's relationship, even in some fiction. Dustin Hofffman is really strong in his supporting role.
I'm not too sure on Emma Thompson in this one. I like this movie but I wouldn't call it amazing or a classic.
