Review of Strangeland (1998) by Brian W — 15 Apr 2008
When I set out to watch this movie, I was expecting crap, but wow was this movie ever crap! It was definitely inspired by the likes of "Hellraiser", but much more jumbled and stereotyped. In this world, everyone with tattoos and piercings hangs out together at really scary goth clubs, and they all have so many tattoos and piercings that they're barely recognizeable as human beings anymore.
And the main villain, "Captain Howdy", played by Dee Snider himself, lures teen girls to his house over the internet so that he can teach them to overcome unbearable pain because he thinks that makes them better people.
The acting was terrible, the plot thin, and the soundtrack just about made my ears bleed. The only reason I gave this movie one full star is because of my love for Robert Englund, my amusement at a villain named Captain Howdy, and seeing Dee Snider in a cardigan.
Seriously, though, don't bother with this movie. All it will do is rob you of an hour and a half of your life.
