Interesting colorful storyline. Carries on the new attempts by Disney to be more inclusive and add natural diversity by matter-of-factly including a gay teen lead. Way to go Disney. I completely support this new, more realistic representation of the world.
The problem is that the main story of the "strange world" is partially a recycled story from a 60's sci-fi movie (too spoiler-y to reveal here) and this connection causes the "big twist" at the end to be immediately obvious about 10 minutes in.
If you haven't seen that 60's movie, you'll probably think the big twist was brilliant, but for me it was a big disappointment to see the "truth" about the world much too early. Great voice casting and animation.
Good side-story about parents learning to let kids be whoever they are.
