Review of Strange Wilderness (2008) by Rory O — 02 Feb 2012
This movie does not have much going for it. A zero on the Tomatometer. Only 35% of viewers actually liked it. An average user rating of 2.7 out of 5. Produced by Happy Madison productions. Once you get past all of that negativity surrounding the movie, it can actually be a pretty entertaining ride.
Filled with raunchy, completely inappropriate humor, the film delivers exactly what it promises. A really really dumb comedy. And that is what it is. I feel people try to look too into some movies and don't realize what films like these really are: a joke. No way the writers, directors, producers and actors sat down together when they made this film and thought collectively that this was going to be the next ground breaking achievement in film. They knew the film was going to be "bad" and once you accept this as the point of the film you can actually have a pretty enjoyable experience with it.
The film is about a wildlife show that is not your typical show you would find on Discovery or AnimalPlanet. They swear, they smoke, they drink, they steal, and they even kill. Put all those things together and you have a pretty ridiculous movie. If you are one of those people who feels every time you watch a movie you are expecting something great, don't bother with this movie. But if you are one of those people who can appreciate straight humor without having to think much (or at all) I would totally recommend this movie. In no way would I put this up there with one of my all time favorites, but it is a fun ride that I believe the Tomatometer is a little too harsh on.
