Review of Strange Wilderness (2008) by Timothy S — 03 Mar 2010
Even when I was laughing hysterically at "Strange Wilderness", I kept thinking to myself that maybe this was the worst movie ever made. It's embarrassingly immature but inexplicably through in enough bad language and crude jokes to get an "R" rating and ensure that the age group that would enjoy it the most can't get in to see it.
The side of me that loves "so bad it's good" movies like "Showgirls" appreciated the film's goofiness and go-for-broke attitude. It's so off-the-wall that I just couldn't hate it as much as I wanted to hate it.
Steve Zahn amazed everyone with his performance in "Rescue Dawn". He just took 3 giant steps backwards with this picture. The rest of the oddball cast fits in with the film's scattershot style.
The chance of seeing Robert Patrick, Ernest Borgnine and Harry Hamlin together again in another movie is astronomical. It was produced by Adam Sandler and as hit-and-miss as this is, it's still better than most of his films.
You have to be in the right mood, high, or a 10-year-old to appreciate this. I was in the right mood.
