Review of Strange Magic (2015) by Jeff B — 23 Jan 2015
I think a lot of critics are giving this movie a bad review just because they don't want their "fans" to think that they like anything related to George Lucas. The fact that Lucas's name is on the poster doesn't automatically make a movie bad, and personally I think Strange Magic is lot of fun.
The music is all covers of songs that span decades, from Deep Purple to Kelly Clarkson, and IMO it all works pretty well and is quite catchy (my kids have been singing the songs since we had a chance to see an early screening a few days ago).
The story is as predictable as you might expect from a kid's movie, but it still has heart. I'd definitely recommend you check it out with your kids, despite what all the jaded, anti-Lucas/Disney critics might say.
