Review of Strange Days (1995) by Michael T — 19 Aug 2008
Y2K came and went. James Cameron, who had been married to Kathryn Bigelow, gave her this script that he had started working on the 1980s (I suspect that the sci-fi elements came out of that period). LA on the brink of the new millennium is on the brink of anarchy and a street hustler uncovers a conspiracy and is stalked by two sinister cops as well as a psychopathic killer.
By 1999, the Clinton administration had eased race relations in the USA, teen pop acts had displaced alternative music, and the angriest Hip Hop artist around was Eminem. Still, the movie is exciting and serves as an interesting alternative Y2K.
