Review of Strange Brew (1983) by Nik B — 10 Oct 2009
The most interesting thing about this viewing, is that while I was watching it this past Saturday, the lawyer mentioned that the McKenzie's kidnapped Pam on October 10th, the day I was watching.
I totally admit to my film snobbery. Watching this right after "Weird Science" just made me focus on what I let slide as a kid. When the script abandons its internal logic and just throws some rediculous shit in, I have to de-rate the whole flick. And especially in the '80s- when computers were new not in every home, if you can get a "computer" in your movie, then you can accomplish fucking anything...
But dad's a ghost? The dog can fly? Come on...
If it weren't for the clearly enjoyable and genuinely funny lead characters, there would nothing for me to watch here. I would have rather have seen these characters in a movie that made sense.
