Review of Straight Time (1978) by Eugene D — 02 Dec 2007
This movie defines the term "lost classic" and provides ample proof why Dustin Hoffman should be mentioned in the same breath as 70 icons DeNiro and Pacino. The movie is almost perfect (soundtrack is really dated and out-of-place) -- and the scene where Harry Dean Stanton, eating a cheeseburger next to pool in suburbia, turns to Hoffman's Max Dembo and says "Get me out of here" is classic. See it now.
OH YEAH -- it's based on a story by Eddie Bunker, a career criminal who served in San Quentin with Danny Trejo and became a novelist. Bunker later appeared as one of the "Reservoir Dogs.".
Read "Confessions of a Felon" and see the phenomenal "Animal Factory" for more on Bunker.
