Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Zak C — 07 Oct 2015
Super-charged with a sensational soundtrack. As someone who doesn't speak the language, if there are lyrics condoning rape or other crimes of that order, I don't hold with that. The film's depiction of women stops short of outright humiliation, but it gets uncomfortably close.
Other comments say that the film glosses over the gangs. Otherwise, its hostility to racism is fair enough. As a film it is well made, but it should have left out the death scene. There is little to match the huge rhythms and high power vocals.
