Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Slade L — 02 Dec 2015
Decent biopic of the World's Most Dangerous Group. Always a fascinating story, well-acted. The guy playing Ice Cube plays him amazingly - sounds/looks exactly like I remember him from his early days (yes, I know that's his son so I kbow he'd look/sound like him, vut EXACTLY like? Still played excellently).
Tge dude playing Eazy E also has the role down perfectly, and Im (oddly) not as sure about Dre. The story is brilliant - its a fascinating story in real life anyway, though I think they made Dre a bit TOO big part of it.
News to me tgat he inspired Eazy to rap. I dorget the other shortcomings/historical revisions, but its obvious they were making the big three stars the only part of the story. MC Ren was brutally marginalised when I know for a fact he was a fan-favourite and a big part of them.
He is just there as Eazy's sidekick. I feel sickened to think Suge Knight probably had royalties paid to him for use of his name: really a vile human being (and played perfectly, tbh). Overall a very good film.
Not a 'Walk the Line,' but gets most of the real story out there. Wish it didnt inspire that bloody 'Straight Outta...' meme though.
