Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Leanne S — 08 Jan 2016
GODDAMN! HOOOLY SHITT.... What a film...Man, I cried three times during this film...
If a movie can be worth the wait, then this one is.
If a movie can be true, then this one is.
Even if I don't know much about the 1992 LA Riots and the times NWA was around, I still got the goosebumps. Especially that shot with the Bloods & Crips rags together against Injustice. I mean, now I fully understand those tweets from Ava DuVernay. I have a feeling that this film captures the feeling, surroundings and the imagery of the times and the unrest brutally honest just as much as NWA's music was.
As a big time hip-hop head, I love what F. Gary Gray made. This is not just a great movie based on an Artist/group, but this is a great film overall. Amazing acting, stunning shots and the music of course. There's nothing missing or going bad in this film, really.
Jason Mitchell's performance as Eazy-E was fucking amazing! It's one of the highlights in a completely, fully, totally amazing film. Now sink that in!
Produced by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella and the widow of the late Eazy-E, Tomica Wright. It show just how much heart was put into this masterpiece. Every single detail was great and the film is indeed a big tribute to E himself. NWA coming back together to honor their friend this way is the greatest shit we can expect.
This just put the Hip-Hop films on the map again. It was in a limbo ever that since whack Biggie film but Hollywood moving on with Pac picture now with the same actor from Straight Outta Compton and 2009's Notorious playing Pac and Biggie respectively.
