Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Dean R — 22 Jan 2016
Rating: 4 out of 5 - Great story telling of NWA.
Straight Outta Compton tells the story of NWA and the 3 main characters - Easy E, Dr Dre and Ice Cube.
All of them successful together and even more successful in their own right.
What makes this film so good is the fact that Dr Dre and Ice Cube both had a lot of input into this film to give its authentic and mostly accurate look at their time in NWA.
Like any story of a band, it shows the highs and lows of fame and what it can do to friendships.
The story was slightly one sided (for obvious reasons) and some parts were left out of the story, but overall I feel it was a great movie from start to finish.
All the acting was on point and was good to see Ice Cube's son play Ice Cube in the movie which provide more authenticity to the role and movie.
The soundtrack was spot on and will delight anyone who loved late 80's rap.
NWA were one of the pioneer bands of rap along with other groups like Public Enemy and glad that this movie was made to show the insight of a band that had it all but through a lot of hard work and pain.
Whether you appreciate rap music or not, you will understand the reasoning for their music and how it affected a generation that needed voices, and for them to be heard.
