Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Timothy J — 15 Jul 2016
A pretty good bio-pic. The first 90 minutes is the best. The story of the forming of NWA, from the streets of Compton to their pivotal rise in creating "Gangsta Rap" of the 90's. This story is the most compelling and genuinely so.
Who doesn't like a rags to riches story? The remainder of the movie kind slides more into mediocrity when it devolves into a movie about the music business. The break-ups and Suge Knights involvement.
It becomes a little choppy as it tries to incorporate every little moment and name involved with these men in their music business history. Basically the movie tries to fit too much in. It's a much less compelling movie during the last 90 minutes.
The result is that it seems to run too long.
