Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Ratedrex — 20 Feb 2016
Straight Outta Compton is a horror story. It shows a culture that is in a perpetual confrontational frame of mind. Disrespect is rampant. Respect isn't earned, it is snatched through intimidation. The bigger the man, or the bigger the gun, the more respect is garnered.
The community talks of brotherhood, but in reality, it is just the opposite. It is amazing how the people of the community know that their lifestyle is self-destructive, but they adopt the lifestyle anyway.
I guess many of them believe that they almost have no choice. One of these days someone will have the nerve to make a movie explaining the real reasons why things are so bad in the hood. Until then we will have movies like "Straight Outta Compton" doing their best to give us a peek inside America's haunted house and the people who live there.
