Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Smiyamot — 21 Feb 2016

Rags to riches story, but this time it's 5 black guys from the hood. They see killings, drugs, police brutality, the whole injustice of their lives in the poor part of town and turn it into lyrics. Their way out is music, rap, at the outset of rap.

I'm too old to like rap so it was interesting to see it's roots and how it started, and how the infighting among rap managers and producers took the violence from the streets and into the studios. I wanted to see more of their individual stories, what made them who they are, but maybe that would have made a 6 hour movie.

The movie covered too much ground and made the characters too shallow.
