Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Steviegjd — 02 Sep 2015
If you don't like NWA's music then you probably won't like this film. In exchange for getting the music and access to Dre and Cube the film makers chose not to tell the truth about what happened. But that doesn't make it bad.
I love the music and I really liked the film. The young actors playing E, Cube and Dre are great. The idolization of Cube and Dre and the demonization of E and their manager felt phony and immature.
If the movie was billed as the Ice Cube version of NWA, then there would be no complaint., This is a nostalgic journey into 1988-95 rap. I bought Straight Outta Compton when I was in college and NWA was getting flack from the government and the media.
Their voice was meaningful for at least a generation of urban youths.
