Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by George B — 26 Jan 2016
IMHO: "Straight Outta Compton" isn't the best film I've ever seen nor even the best this year but it's as good as most of the Oscar (R)-nominated films and absolutely should have been among them.
The first half of the film is excellent and historically fascinating, especially to those of us who are not familiar with NWA and the birth of hip-hop, and Jason Mitchell delivered a wonderful performance as Eazy-E, well worthy of recognition.
Admittedly, the movie does deteriorate into Hollywood schmaltz and suffers from dramatic cliché devices before it's over but it's an exciting ride nonetheless.
